The Personalized Medicine Coalition: The Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC), representing innovators, scientists, patients, providers and payers promotes the understanding and adoption of personalized medicine concepts, services and products to benefit patients and the health system. The Coalition’s priority areas are education and advocacy.

National Academies of Medicine – Roundtable on Genomics and Precision Health and Action Collaboratives: The Roundtable on Genomics and Precision Health brings together leaders from government, academia, industry, foundations, associations, patient communities, and other stakeholder groups to meet and discuss global issues surrounding the translation of genomics and genetics research findings into medicine, public health, education, and policy. The Genomics and Population Health Action Collaboratives convene key stakeholders with an interest in and commitment to integrating genomics in existing population health programs for health improvement. Participating North Carolina Precision Health Collaborative experts contributed to a discussion paper on population screening. 

The Office of Public Health Genomics: The Office of Public Health Genomics provides updated and credible information on how genomic information and family health history can improve health and influence policy and practice. We highlight news and information on the use of genomic tests and other applications, including family health history, in clinical and public health practice and programs, along with relevant data, policy, and legislation.

The Get the Medications Right Institute (GTMRx) is about overcoming barriers to delivery of appropriate and effective use of medication.  It believes that a personalized, patient-centered, systematic and coordinated approach to medication use will vastly improve outcomes and reduce overall health care costs. The All of Us Research Program is accelerating research advances and precision medicine.

Duke’s Applied Genomics & Precision Medicine: The Duke Center for Applied Genomics & Precision Medicine was created to focus on developing interdisciplinary science and pragmatic implementation strategies and capabilities to enhance our ability to diagnose and predict patient outcomes across the continuum from health to disease.

North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC): A scientific community of eight North Carolina universities, the David H. Murdock Research Institute (DHMRI), companies and entrepreneurs, whose shared mission is to empower human health through safer, more nutritious crops, healthier foods and precision nutrition. The NCRC is located in Kannapolis, NC, near Charlotte.

RENCI is a leader in data science and an essential catalyst for data-driven discoveries leading to better health, a safer environment, and improved economic and business successes.  Given that technological advances have given researchers and clinicians access to an enormous amount of information about the human genome, RENCI plays a role studying the genomes of individuals and populations can help us better understand human health and disease, evaluate factors that modify risk for disease, inform diagnoses, help predict response to treatments, and identify new drug targets.  Specific local projects include: NCGenes, NCNexus, and GeneScreen (https://renci.org/research/informatics-for-genetic-sequencing/).

RTI Precision Medicine: The RTI team leverages its collective expertise in genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, the microbiome, and biomarker discovery to better understand disease states and inform individualized approaches to treatment and prevention.

UNC School of Medicine: The Program for Precision Medicine in Health Care (PPMH), the Department of Genetics, and the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center are actively engaged in precision medicine. PPMH seeks to foster advancements in evidence-based precision medicine approaches to disease screening, prevention, diagnosis, and health management. The Department of Genetics focuses on providing basic and applied genetic/genomic research, education, and training, while the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center is leading an emerging scientific approach to canter treatment that is building on advances in genetic sequencing.

Wake Forest School of Medicine Center for Precision Medicine  develops and supports innovative, collaborative, multidisciplinary research programs to understand the transition of normal physiology to dysregulated disease processes at the molecular level.  The detailed understanding of those changes will advance the ability to improve long-term health outcomes of patients, and the development of novel innovative treatment and lifestyle modification strategies.

UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy: UNC Catalyst, a group of researchers and educators operating within the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, is committed to creating high-quality research tools for disease-related proteins, and sharing these catalytic reagents with the entire research community immediately and without restriction upon discovery.

North Carolina Rare Disease Network: A partnership between advocacy groups including Taylor’s Tale, academic medical centers, the National Institutes of Health and others keenly interested in the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases that can be a model for the nation.

NC Rare Disease Advisory Council: To provide advice on coordinating statewide efforts for the study of the incidence of rare diseases within the State and the status of the rare disease community.

North Carolina Rare Action Network: A local chapter of a national network providing opportunities at the state and federal level to take action to make a positive impact on the rare disease community.
