NCBiotech accelerates growth in the life sciences statewide, delivering economic impact for North Carolina.

Measurable Impact, Targeted Outcomes

NCBiotech brings together partners and implements programs that stimulate growth in the life sciences statewide. Below are the impact areas and targeted outcomes for our 2030 strategy to further strengthen North Carolina's position as a global life sciences leader.

Dr. Gloria Elliot NCBiotech research grants and related programs support the state's world-class university research infrastructure and maximize the economic impact of academic innovation. These programs:

  • Grow research capacity
  • Promote colloaboration
  • Spark game-changing ideas
  • Translate exciting science into solutions for societal challenges

By 2030, NCBiotech will attract significant follow-on funding, leading to an additional 100+ patent filings and 35 licenses.

Over the next five years, NCBiotech will catalyze out-of-state investment in early-stage companies by:

  • Increasing the number of life sciences venture funds operating in state
  • Increasing awareness of North Carolina investment opportunities
  • Activating local angel investors
  • Partnering with entrepreneurial stakeholders to make investments in companies outside of RTP
  • Ensure access to our investor networks

NCBiotech will engage growth-stage R&D companies to increase visibility of these companies and drive additional capital to North Carolina. By  2030, our program will lead to an additional $5 billion in external funding.

expansion and recruitments. North Carolina's workforce development must be coordinated to ensure alignment between the trained talent pool and industry's needs. NCBiotech will lead company outreach and engagement programs and coordinate workforce development initiatives, empower more employers to provide career pathways.  


By 2030, NCBiotech will:

  • Enable the creation of 10,000 life sciences jobs
  • Support the announcement of 15,000 additional jobs 

Diverse business meeting

NCBiotech will convene diverse coalitions and strategic partners to create and respond to opportunities that strengthen North Carolina's life sciences competitive advantage. We will catalyze solutions to address local, state, national and global challenges. Over the next five years, NCBiotech will:

  • Lead and support targeted collaborative initiatives in pursuit of $500 million in funding and 
    other in-kind resources
  • Procure $150 million to grow our life sciences ecosystem
