External Funding Opportunities for Businesses
The North Carolina Biotechnology Center provides loan funding to promising early-stage life science companies across the state, but this funding is rarely sufficient for these companies to fully develop and commercialize their products. As such, NCBiotech staff members go to great lengths to connect NC-based companies with funding from external organizations such as venture capital investors, angel investors and foundations.
In addition to personal introductions to such funding organizations, NCBiotech offers several formal programs to link companies with external funding and to work with these companies to refine their strategies/presentations so they are stronger candidates to attract external funding. These programs include our:
- NCBiotech Angel Group Lunches
NCBiotech holds quarterly lunches that foster improved relationships among North Carolina-based angel capital groups; these events also facilitate sharing of best practices, create opportunities to syndicate deals, and provide a forum through which NCBiotech can introduce life science companies to the angel groups.
- NCBiotech Emerging Company Preview
Each year, the Biotech Center runs an NCBiotech Emerging Company Preview during which life science companies present their pitches to VC investors and experienced corporate executives in the area. The candid feedback received by these companies enables them to refine their strategy and pitch before formally hitting the road to seek VC funding.
- NCBiotech VC Events
The Biotech Center organizes NCBiotech VC Events in regions with heavy concentrations of venture capital funds. These events connect N.C.-based, VC-ready companies with groups of leading life science VCs, with the dual goals of attracting investments into these companies and promoting investment in North Carolina overall.
