Educational Materials: Center staff have produced or supported the production of curriculum materials and texts related to biotechnology:
- Molecular Biology and Biotechnology : A Guide for Teachers , Helen Kreuzer and Adrianne Massey, 2008, American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Press.
- BioWork, a one-semester course providing basic education for entry-level process technicians in the bioprocess, pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing industries. Taught in community colleges across North Carolina. For locations, contact the Community College System BioNetwork.
- Introduction to Biotechnology, a 9th-10th grade course for Career Technical Education curricula that provides an overview of biotechnology, its applications, and careers.
- Mapping Your Future: Careers in Biomanufacturing, produced by the North Carolina Association for Biomedical Research in collaboration with the Biotechnology Center. A one-two week module about the pharmaceutical industry: how drugs get from the research laboratory to the pharmacy shelf, and what different jobs in the industry are like. Can be integrated into a variety of courses.
- Workforce development publications. A major part of the Center’s work in support of biotechnology industry workforce development is the tracking of industry hiring needs and trends, and the knowledge and skill base required to work in the industry. Several Education and Training publications provide this information to educators.
Educational program advising. Center staff provides advice on biotechnology curriculum and program design to faculty and administrators, often in conjunction with education grant administration; and are available to serve on departmental or institutional advisory committees for biotechnology-related programs.
