Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD) is a serious pest of berries that has recently invaded North Carolina and other States. Current control methods using synthetic insecticides are of limited effectiveness. We propose to develop an engineered strain of SWD that could be used for genetic suppression of SWD populations in the field.
