Macromolecular x-ray crystallography requires the critical step of growing a diffracting protein crystal. These can be readily differentiated from other undesirable crystals through illumination with UV light because only protein crystals fluoresce under UV. We request funds to upgrade our white light-only crystallization experiment imager to have UV capabilities.
